urabond Waterproofer and Plasticiser is a concentrated admixture for cement mixes to reduce water permeability and entrain air. It can be used in concrete, renders and mortar to reduce the passage of moisture and suction. It is especially useful in rendering and dry dashing where it is important to prevent too much suction in backing coats. Recommended Mixes:
Rendering : 3:1, sand : cement with Waterproofer and Plasticiser diluted 40:1 with water as gauging.
Two coats to a thickness of 18-20 mm are applied. Do not make the first coat stronger or apply thicker than the second coat.
Rough Casting : Backing coat 3:1 sand : cement with Waterproofer and Plasticiser diluted 40:1 as gauging. This should be applied to a thickness of 12 mm and scratched to form a mechanical key. Waterproofer and Plasticiser can be added to the second coat in exposed areas.
NOTE: When using Waterproofer and Plasticiser do not add any other air entraining admixture e.g. Plasticiser.
Application
All brickwork should have the mortar joints raked to provide a good mechanical key. Any loose material should be removed with a wire brush.
In hot weather, especially on south facing walls, the surface should be thoroughly wetted before application of the render. After application the render should be protected from direct sunlight to effect a full cure. Ideally render coats should be left 7 days before proceeding.
Safe Handling
Durabond Waterproofer and Plasticiser is alkaline and prolonged skin contact should be avoided. In the case of splashing wash the affected area with copious amounts of water.
