Description:
Durabond Easy Silicone is a silicone sealant of a new generation intended for sealing and bonding in the construction industry.

Particular Properties:
Durabond Easy Silicone is a one component ready to use sealant which cures at room temperature into a flexible, strong silicone seal with excellent adhesion.

Durabond Easy Silicone is a multi-purpose product perfectly suited to indoor and outdoor sealing applications.

Durabond Easy Silicone is a thixotropic paste allowing its use in vertical as well as horizontal joints.

Durabond Easy Silicone offer excellent primerless adhesion on a wide variety of building surfaces such as: anodised or raw aluminium, glass, wood, ceramic tiles, enamel, stainless or galvanised steel, painted surfaces, etc.
Durabond Easy Silicone also has a number of specific outstanding properties, new to silicone sealants:
  • Quick and easy to use: tooled with a wet cloth or spatula. Tools and joint edges are cleaned off with water.
  • Odourless drying and curing without release of chemical product.
  • Paintable with most types of paint (acrylic, gloss, polyurethane, etc.)
  • Product can be used in humid situations.
  • Compatibility and adhesion with other types of sealants (silicone, acrylic, polyurethane, etc.)
Durabond Easy Silicone has excellent resistance to temperature variations (from -50°C to 120°C) and UV exposure.

Applications:
Durabond Easy Silicone can be used for all regular work:
  • Sealing, bonding, fixing, filling, jointing both inside and outside.
It has many applications such as:
  • Plasterboard, glass brick partitions
  • Border/edge joints for tiled concrete slabs
  • Indoor jointing
  • Sealing of bitumen coated roofing terraces
  • Masonry structures
  • Seals and joints subject to vibrations
  • Glazing joints on metal and wood (indoor seals)

Precautions:
Durabond Easy Silicone should not be used when temperatures less than 5°C are expected in the 24 hours following application.

Durabond Easy Silicone should not be used in the rain or immediately before rain.

Durabond Easy Silicone progressively develops its mechanical and adhesion properties in the weeks following its application. The best results are achieved approximately one month after application.

Processing: Joint preparation:
the joint faces to be bonded must be clean, and free from dust, oil, grease and any traces of contaminant which may affect adhesion. Surfaces should be degreased with hot water or solvent using a clean cloth and the two cloth method. To remove dust, use oil-free compressed air.

Joint dimensions:
the movement capability as well as local regulations must be taken into account. Generally, joint width should be twice the depth.

Sealant application:
after a joint backing material has been applied, if appropriate, the sealant must be applied taking care to ensure that the joint is fully filled. Tool the sealant with a wet spatula or cloth to ensure that there is correct contact between the sealant and the joint surface before skin formation occurs.

Excess uncured sealant should be wiped and cleaned with water. Cured sealant can only be removed by abrasion.

Adhesion:
in order to favour adhesion on wood to the surface it is preferable to wet the surface before applying the sealant.

Drying and curing:
Durabond Easy Silicone forms a skin after around 10 minutes and can be considered as tack free 25 minutes after being applied*. If required, skin formation can be delayed by spraying a little water gently on the joint.

The time available for tooling is then extended as long as there is water on its surface.

*at a temperature of 23°C and 50% relative humidity.

Painting:
Durabond Easy Silicone can be painted with most paints. (outdoor, indoor, floor, etc.)

To obtain the best results it is preferable.
  • With water based paints (acrylic, vinyl) to paint as soon as the sealant is dry to the touch (around an hour after applying).
  • With oil based paints (alkyd, polyurethane, etc.), to wait at least 24 hours before painting.
If the Durabond Easy Silicone joint has been produced a long time before, it is advised to wash it before painting.

Following paint manufacturers recommendations for application.

Limits of Use:
Durabond Easy Silicone is not recommended on materials where migration of constituents can take place (please consult us) (i.e. Neoprene strips).

Durabond Easy Silicone must not be used in areas of food contact or in aquarium construction.

Durabond Easy Silicone is not recommended for joints in permanent immersion (swimming pool, etc.) as well as joints where abrasion or heavy traffic is expected.

Toxicity/ Environment
In laboratory tests with Durabond Ltd the products did not show skin or eye irritation or sensitisation. Tests revealed no acute oral or skin toxicity. After curing the sealant is not irritant nor sensitising.

Durabond Easy Silicone is not environmentally toxic in any way. Once cured the sealant can be eliminated either by burning or by disposing of it properly to a waste tip. However, it is necessary to comply with normal precautions when applying the product and to follow the Safety Data Sheet instructions. In the case of contact with the skin or eyes, rinse abundantly with water and consult a doctor.

Keep out of reach of children.
