Integral Waterproofer
Description
Durabond Integral Waterproofer is an alkaline soap of a mixed fatty acid which when incorporated into cement based mixes reduces water permeability.
ApplicationDurabond Integral Waterproofer may be used to construct cement based structures to retain water. This includes retaining walls, footings, external renders, screeds and swimming pools. Durabond Integral Waterproofer will prevent the passage of liquid water but not water vapour therefore in flooring situations a membrane must be incorporated.
Preparation
New or old brickwork should have a good mechanical key. This is normally obtained by raking out the joints and making sure that any surface coating is removed. The prepared surface should be brushed to remove loose material.
Recommended Mixes
Rendering where ground water pressures exists. A total thickness of 20-25mm should be applied in two coats. The mix will consist of sand : cement, 2.5/3 : 1 incorporating Integral Waterproofer at a rate of 1 litre per 50kg cement. The water content should be kept to a minimum. It is important that the first coat is stronger than the second and applied thicker. Do not add any other additive when using Integral Waterproofer. On horizontal surfaces the thickness should be increased to 35-38mm.
External Renderings and Roughcasting
Use a backing coat of 3:1 sand: cement at 12mm thick incorporating Integral Waterproofer at a rate of 0.5 litre per 50kg cement. This should be scratched to form a key for the subsequent coat. The second coat should be no stronger than the first and applied to a thickness of 8mm. In exposed areas Integral Waterproofer can be applied to the second coat and wet dashing mix. Ideally a period of seven days should be allowed between coats.
Swimming Pools
Use the mixes as recommended in rendering where ground water pressure exists.
Safe Handling
Durabond Integral Waterproofer is alkaline and prolonged skin contact should be avoided. In case of splashes wash the affected are with plenty of water.
